Research Methods
I employed child-friendly research methods to understand the needs of our young users:
• Contextual Observation
I observed children running actual lemonade stands to understand their natural behaviors, challenges, and interactions.
• Kid-Friendly Interviews
I conducted simplified interviews with 15 children (ages 7-12) who had experience running lemonade stands, using age-appropriate language and visual aids.
• Competitive Analysis
I analyzed both direct competitors (business apps for kids) and indirect competitors (educational games and financial literacy tools).
Key Research Findings:
Visual Learning
Children strongly preferred visual representations over text-based instructions and data.
Achievement Motivation
Young users were highly motivated by achievements, badges, and visible progress.
Social Validation
Children were excited by the possibility of connecting with peers and comparing achievements.
Simplicity Requirement
Complex workflows caused frustration and abandonment among younger users.
